Positive Relationships for Success in Life
- Nearly a century has passed since the 1920s prohibition era, where Fitzgerald explains the settings of The Great Gatsby. All of the components of wealth cleverly visualized in the novel still lingering on today from the time of bootlegging and mafia wars of the ban of alcohol. Presented to us in the class of Mr. Pangier was the idea of the core four; Health, intellect, money and relationships. I will overview all of the virtues before us in what is my interpretation of success. Success, is the measurement of progress and wealth is the final product.
First and foremost a brief overview of all of the virtues that create the pillars to the house of wealth, Health. to be healthy and alive. The widely accepted definition of health is as follows “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” World Health Organization. In class we were told to divide into the four and health had the very least of supporters, when the question arose to why? Peers justified that intelligence, relationship and the abundance of money can outsource health but the rebuttal to that is the very definition of health as defined by W.H.O. that I have given.
- Health is basically stability, to be healthy in a relationship, a healthy source of income or an honest growth mindset i.e. healthy intellectually all represent an acute control, stable and a positive return. This stability is often mistaken with money, Money seems to be at our age of young people entering the capitalist free market society the key to success. Although true to a degree, money does provide stability, I have experienced this personally with student films I have created, the more expensive my equipment the more highly functional and effective I can deliver my message across to the audience. Money can do wonders, and is really a wonder itself. Currencies and the establishment of money is only followed by those who abide by it, it is not the same sort of stability that can be garnered for a state of well-being or even thinking process but it can help.
- Money is the embodiment of wealth, in the capitalist society we live in today without money you are taught you cannot attain happiness, will never find relationship and may never find enlightment of the mind. Most people chose this corner of the class and for valid reason. The arguement of money being bad is the same as the arguement of guns killing people, the reality is that the health of these individuals faulter into corruption. Money can either own you or you can own the money, in retrospective money makes the world go around, even with no value people find a faceless price on it. It can define your Intellectual capacity and relationship status. From The Great Gatsby we see that Jay Gatsby flaunts himself in what seems to be an avarice of fortunes, the bright yellow turbo car, the mansion with extravagant parties. Money owns him and his persona, but Gatsby also had a love interest.
- Intellectually, Gatsby may have seen to thought nothing of it, in his world what he was doing was justified. A wishful thinking process in his actions where he thought Daisy could forever be taken from Tom Buchanan and that they could live happily ever after. This is the negative of Intellectual or Intelligence; another one of our pillars for wealth. The people who chose this fraction of the wells of wealth deemed positive that with extensive knowledge you can achieve a healtjy life style and gain money as well as handle relationships to his/her advantage. The practice of this is very logical, but the reality is astoundingly different. Throughout history the biggest contributions to the world were all inventions from the smartest people in the world, who quite notablely lacked social skills, basic necessities and were unhealthy. Of course with passion, knowledge embodies something greater than what we know.
- Relationships, the heart of passion and the motivation for wealth. Why would you build wealth? For personal interests, to garner attention or to live in the highest regards for stability? No. Individuals seek success for relationship, with society, with the community and with ones self. Relationships both constructive and destructive, drives humanity. Gatsby loved Daisy, to an unhealthy degree. Gatsby had thrown himself into a hurricane of disparity with an absence of relationship indulged in lies all to lure Daisy. Often times relationship is defined as a man and a women in monogamy, but relationships span much more than the confides of love and passion alone. Social networks and Hierarchy are all built from relations.
